Symantec Endpoint Protection – Virus Definitions Problems July 13th 2010

Just noticing thismorning that a few workstations we manage have been misbehaving thismorning.

From what we can see, it appears to be caused by Symantec Endpoint Protection, probably a Virus Definition that was issued sometime overnight.

Symptoms:

-Computer very slow on bootup (30 minutes to boot), then very unresponsive while using

-Disk Activity light on computer solid

-Performance Monitor on Windows states the Disk Queue length is full

On these systems, removing Symantec Endpoint Protection seemed to have temporarily resolved the issue. We will investigate this further and post what we find out.

UPDATE: To fully resolve this issue, uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection. Run “Microsoft Update” and install all needed updates, re-install Symantec Endpoint Protection. This resolved the issue on a few computers for me.
